Audi is in talks with Huawei about developing a China-specific version of its next-generation A8 using the Chinese technology company’s vehicle architecture, Germany’s Manager Magazin reported. The proposed model would be manufactured in China rather than imported from Germany, with key development work provided by Huawei.
The discussions also cover other premium vehicles, including an SUV, according to the report. Audi aims to use the partnership to support its Changchun manufacturing operation, with initial production targeted before the end of 2028. The companies have not finalized an agreement. The proposal comes as Audi seeks to strengthen its position in China’s increasingly competitive premium-car market. [Manager Magazin]
