A record 20 Chinese car brands will participate in the 2026 Paris Motor Show, accounting for roughly a third of the approximately 60 automakers exhibiting at the event. The show opens on October 12, with Chinese participation doubling from 10 brands at the previous edition in 2024.

BYD and Chery will be joined by newcomers including Aito and Avatr as Chinese manufacturers expand their European presence with electric and hybrid vehicles. Aito plans to present four premium electric SUVs for Europe and aims to increase overseas sales to 20% of its total within three years, up from less than 1% currently.

European manufacturers will also unveil new models as competition intensifies. François Roudier, secretary-general of the International Organization of Motor Vehicle Manufacturers, said the arrival of Chinese brands had helped revive interest in motor shows as some traditional manufacturers reduced their participation.
