Huawei and Qualcomm announced a multi-year patent licensing agreement on October 5 covering cross-licenses to their patent portfolios in 5G, computing, AI and networking. The agreement also includes Qualcomm’s purchase of certain Huawei U.S. patents in computing, AI, networking and other technology fields.

The transaction remains subject to the necessary regulatory approvals, including a review under the U.S. Hart-Scott-Rodino antitrust law. The companies said the agreement follows fair, reasonable and non-discriminatory licensing principles. The arrangement is limited to patents and does not include other business cooperation. It is the companies’ first patent license agreement covering 5G technologies, according to Huawei. [TechNode reporting]
