China-based panel makers are expected to supply 65.2% of global automotive-display shipments in the second half of 2026, up from 59% in the first half. Their share has more than doubled since 2019, when they accounted for 28.1% of shipments, and reached 56.6% in 2025.
The shift is tied to the restructuring of LCD production outside China, where low returns are prompting manufacturers to close, sell or repurpose older factories. Under one scenario, the number of commercially available automotive-related amorphous-silicon and oxide LCD production lines outside mainland China could fall from seven in 2026 to three in 2028, while mainland suppliers retain a broader production base concentrated in larger factories.
