Huawei opened preorders for its Mate XT2 tri-fold smartphone on Aug. 31, ahead of an official launch event scheduled for Sept. 7. The company began accepting reservations at 10:08 a.m. China time, marking the next commercial step for its new foldable device.

Huawei has described the Mate XT2 as using a new structural design intended to improve the distribution of weight across the three folding sections. The phone is an updated follow-up to Huawei’s previous tri-fold model, which was first introduced as the company expanded its foldable smartphone lineup. [IT Home, in Chinese]
