Alibaba CEO Eddie Wu said on Aug. 20 that the company’s second-generation T-Head chip is expected to begin tape-out and production in the second half of this year. Alibaba said the chip will offer stronger computing performance and interconnect bandwidth, and that the company believes it can support large-model training workloads.

An Alibaba Cloud supernode built around the Zhenwu M890 chip has already entered scaled sales. Alibaba also said its T-Head unit has developed a full-stack chip portfolio covering GPUs, CPUs and networking chips, while the Zhenwu product line had served more than 650 customers by early August.
