Nokia is reportedly planning to close an R&D center in Hangzhou, a move that could affect around 1,600 jobs. An email screenshot cited in the report showed management informing employees about the planned closure, while possible changes to Nokia offices in Beijing, Chengdu, Qingdao and Shanghai are also under discussion.

A Nokia spokesperson said the company is aligning its China operations with its global operating model as its China business has declined in recent years. Nokia’s Greater China workforce fell from about 13,700 employees in 2020 to 7,200 in 2025, while its global headcount declined from roughly 92,000 to 78,000. [IT Home, in Chinese]
