Mobile app developer Koudai Gouwu ( or Pocket Shopping) announced today raising Series A round of US$ 12 million led by Chengwei Ventures. The Beijing-based team also made available its mobile shopping app Guangtaobao (Taobao Shopping), which is characterized by its recommendation feature and discovery engine.

The app, dubbed Guangtaobao, is now live on several platforms including Appleโ€™s app store and Google Play. Wang Ke, founder of the company revealed that in the first place they were doing the same thing as Meilishuo and Mogujie, but then the team pivoted the product to something different. โ€œThereโ€™re more than 1 billion items available on all these ecommerce websites, how could you find the ones that youโ€™ll lose your heart to? Thatโ€™s the problem we hope our recommendation system could solveโ€, said Wang.

Founded in May of last year, the company as of now boasts a headcount of about 70.
